Three Dimensional Immersive Sound System (3D-X)
United States Patent Number US 8,442,244 B1

Overview

3D-X was developed for highly realistic sound reproduction in a commercial or home environment or by a computer, television, recording, or dedicated gaming station. With a precision never before achieved, it duplicates the full 360 degree audio experience, accurately portraying both the direction and distance to a sound source, along with a true sense of the original acoustic space. It can be generated using real time or staged recording of acting sequences, or can be computer generated using proven technology.

It provides the listener with eerily accurate audio from effects such as someone whispering in your ear, a predator creeping up behind you, footsteps in an adjacent room, birds chirping above your head, or traffic passing by on a street. Private conversations are reproduced so it is clear to the listener who is speaking. The technology can be used as a stand alone reproduction system or in conjunction with current stereo, or 5.1 surround sound setups. The application is ideally suited to a computer game or television playback, where the listener is in a fixed location in a small room, but it can also be adapted to more general theatrical environments.
