Fletcher Jones Motorcars is the largest new and pre-owned Mercedes-Benz dealership in the world. The 350,000 sf, $15 million dealership is widely imitated due to its enormous success. The architecture by Bauer and Wiley reflects the natural environment of rolling hills, wetlands, native plants, and sandy marshes of the upper Newport Bay. The interior projects a professional, yet comfortable and customer-friendly image. The store takes customer service and amenities to a new level in auto retailing with multiple luxurious customer lounges with cappuccino bars, customer workstations, a retail boutique, manicurist, shoeshine stand, concierge, children's playroom, and putting green.

MLA designed the interior acoustics and audio visual systems for the dealership. This included an exterior paging system that used a distributed speaker arrangement to limit sound intrusion to the neighboring residential areas. Training rooms were equipped with speech reinforcement and video systems. The open office work station areas included a sound masking system for increased privacy. Interior reverberation in the main showroom was controlled with absorptive blankets behind perforated metal ceiling panels. The mechanical equipment noise was carefully controlled.

The project was honored with the 2000 IIDA Calibre Award.
