Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy is a private Catholic High School for young women, located on 41 acres in the foothills near the San Gabriel Mountains. In 1998, the school completed a state-of-the-art athletics facility, the Student Activities Center, which includes a gymnasium, multi-purpose athletic field, aerobics, weight, and training rooms.
MLA worked with Arroyo Group Architects to design the interior acoustics, HVAC noise control, and sound system for the 26,000 sq. ft. building. The interior treatments were carefully selected to complement the architecture. In the gymnasium, the loudspeakers were designed to blend into the dramatic truss system supporting the roof. The control system was designed to separate the floor into zones that could be turned on and off, according to the use of the space.
