MLA has been active in the preparation of acoustical analyses for multifamily dwellings since the California legal requirement was passed in 1974. These requirements were incorporated into the California Building Code in 1990. A downloadable copy is available by clicking on the link below.

The standards require minimum ratings for noise and impact isolation between dwelling units and maximum allowable interior levels from exterior sources. We developed the original algorithms for performing these calculations, which were published in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society. We have developed efficient methods of doing compliance studies including in-house computer programs. We can deliver acoustical analyses quickly and inexpensively for both new multifamily dwellings, and condominium conversions.

While we do not actively solicit forensic acoustical work, Marshall Long has been designated an expert witness in more than two dozen construction defect litigation cases.
